Elkhart man crashes in Michigan following police pursuit

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich.—A 21-year-old Elkhart man was arrested following a high-speed police pursuit on Saturday, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 13 around 2:49 p.m., calls made to police by the public reported that a black SUV driving recklessly on U.S. 12 near Balk Road had almost struck two motorcycles.

Deputies located the vehicle in Sturgis and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver did not stop the vehicle, police said.

A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds over 100 mph, and went from inside of city limits to out into the county.

Eventually, the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed in the 31000 block of Witt Lake Road.

The 21-year-old male driver from Elkhart was arrested on several felony charges.

A 33-year-old female passenger, also from Elkhart, was uninjured and released from the scene.

The incident remains under investigation
