Elkhart man charged in Michigan City shooting

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports a suspect has been arrested and charged for a shooting at the BP gas station on E. Michigan Boulevard around 6:29 p.m. Sunday.

The shooting left a 40-year-old Michigan City resident in the hospital with several gunshot wounds to the leg.

A probable cause review has been conducted by the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Malcolm Walker of Elkhart, was arrested and carged with Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony, Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, a Level 4 Felony.

Walker was issued a $100,000 cash only bond and is scheduled to appear in La Porte County Superior Court 1 on Sept. 16, at 8:30 a.m.

Authorities say detectives from the Investigative Division are continuing to investigate this incident, process evidence, and conduct additional interviews.
