Elkhart moves closer to sewer compromise

ELKHART, Ind. — The Elkhart sewer standoff could be closer to a compromise.

Mayor Dick moor announced a recommendation from the sewer task force on Thursday.

Officials want to phase in an annexation for commercial businesses outside the city limits.  That is over a span of three years.

Businesses would pay 35 percent of the assessed value of their property plus the city sewer rate.

"I think everyone came with the same mindset to get a resolution and based on that to kind of make it a little more equal," said Tonda Hines.

Business owners say there are more city council meetings next week and they hope to reach a different compromise.
