Elkhart Police asking for public's help in July 5 shooting incident
ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police are asking for the public's help identifying the people responsible for the shooting that injured a 13-year-old who was shot while lying on a couch inside his residence.
The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. on July 5 at a home in the 1000 block of W. Garfield Avenue.
Elkhart Police say the bullet that struck the 13-year-old originated from outside his home.
The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and remains hospitalized.
During the investigation, police have learned there were several people outside the home and in the area at the time the shots were fired.
They are asking for anyone with information about the gunfire or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Detective Rufino Gayton at 574-295-7070 or Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or 800-342-STOP.
