Suspect running from police gets hit by truck, continues running

ELKHART, Ind. - A suspect running from police during a traffic stop was hit by a truck and continued running, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening, police were called to a gas station on Bristol Street on a report of a suspicious male following employees and pacing the parking lot.

When an officer arrived, emergency lights were used to get the person to stop but instead, the male began running toward the road, according to police reports.

Upon running into the road, the male was hit by a truck but immediately got up and ran into a nearby jewelry store.

When the officer caught up with the male, he allegedly resisted being put in handcuffs and kicked a second officer numerous times.

He was eventually detained and taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

One officer that ran after the male fell down and sustained scrapes and abrasions during the chase.

The driver of the truck stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
