ELKHART, Ind. - The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that happened in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street,  Wednesday evening.

The non-fatal shooting happened just after 10:00 p.m.

Officials say upon arrival, officers entered a residence and observed a 34-year-old female suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The female victim was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say no arrests have been made and this is an on-going investigation.
