Elkhart Police report increase in counterfeit money cases

The Elkhart Police Department says it has seen an increase in the number of counterfeit currency cases in the last 5 weeks.

The department says 50 counterfeit currency cases have been filed in the last year, but 14 of those were reported in just the last five weeks.

Most of the cases involve retail shops and fast food restaurants.

A large portion of the counterfeits are twenties, but they are all amounts.

Elkhart Police are asking businesses to check money to ensure it is genuine.
