Elkhart Police searching for suspect who robbed Martin's Supermarket

Police in Elkhart are searching for the man who robbed a Martin's Supermarket early Wednesday morning.

It happened at the Martin's located at 1200 North Nappanee.

“A male all dressed in black entered the store, went to the customer service desk, where he displayed a weapon and robbed them of cash,” said Sergeant Chris Snyder with the Elkhart City Police.

Police believe the suspect fled south possibly getting a car near the intersection of Nappanee and McNaughton.

The robbery is causing folks who live and work nearby to feel a bit uneasy.

“Well its concerning because all of us next door go in sometimes for break, lunch. The girls in the office go over there for Starbucks,” said Jim Solloway, who works just across the street at Kitchen Etc.

But everyone is feeling a sense of relief, after learning no one was injured.

“I'm just glad nobody got hurt or anything,” Solloway said.

The suspect is described as wearing a black hoodie and black mask, 5'4 to 5'8 and weighing 150 to 170 pounds.

Police ask anyone who may have seen a suspicious vehicle speed away from the supermarket around 6 Wednesday morning to call Elkhart Police at 574-295-7070.
