Elkhart students head back to the classroom

ELKHART, Ind. -- Kids in Elkhart said goodbye to their summer vacation on Tuesday. They headed back to the classroom.

ABC57 stopped by Roosevelt Primary where around 600 kindergarten through second grade students had their first full day of classes.

Some parents stayed after the bells rang for a meeting to find out what's in store for their kids this year.

"I like to know what's going on," Eugenia Jackson, whose daughter started kindergarten Tuesday, said. "I also like to be able to help, as far as my friends who can't be involved with the kids. So, I like to know, I like them to know that I'm a solid parent that they can come to."

Mishawaka schools go back to class Aug. 21. South Bend and Penn Harrison start the year Aug. 22.
