LA PORTE, Ind.— A new coffeehouse is opening in La Porte in August.

Evvy’s Coffeehouse will soon open at 1103 Indiana Avenue with a menu full of coffee and tea drinks, including iced and blended options.

Owner Erin Harrell said the intimate, neighborhood coffeehouse will offer locally-roasted coffee, high-quality craft beverages and freshly baked sweets and pastries.

Harrell and her husband moved in near the building that will house the coffee shop and instantly knew it was the right location for their new adventure.

“La Porte still has the charm of a great American small town, where everyone you pass on the street waves hello and starts up a conversation,” Harrell said. “We wanted to contribute a meaningful, walkable amenity to this area that still felt like it was a natural part of the neighborhood.”

Evvy’s Coffeehouse will exclusively brew coffee by Yaggy Road Roasting Company in Valparaiso.

In the future, the shop will feature a heartier breakfast offering and a simple lunch menu, Harrell said.

There will be both indoor and outdoor seating options. Indoors, in addition to the main room seating, a meeting room that seats up to eight people is available with a reservation and “The Study” offers a place for friends to read or chat in comfortable armchairs.

“Our front porch bar seating looks out over historic Indiana Avenue while our colorful backyard offers a bit of an urban retreat, with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables for self-seating,” Harrell said.

Harrell said the shop is also working with a local trainer to plan sunrise yoga in the backyard as well as “Evenings at Evvy’s” events that will include musicians and local food and beverage partners.

“I want this to be a place you come sit down, breathe, take a break and truly enjoy yourself—and a cup of coffee,” Harrell said.

Once it's open, the coffee shop's hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. It will be closed on Tuesdays.

Though a specific grand opening date has not yet been announced, you can find updates about the coffee shop on its Facebook page.
