Excessive heat warning causes speed restriction for South Shore Line Tuesday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Officials with South Shore Line announced, due to the National Weather Service's excessive head warning for Northern Indiana on Tuesday, they have implemented a temperature-based speed restriction.

Officials say the speed restriction is in effect for South Shore tracks between South Bend and Kensington.

The advisory warns of dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around or greater than 105 degrees and officials say the high temperatures can impact track, overhead wire, and other mechanical components.

Passengers can expect delays until the speed restriction has been lifted.

Officials say passengers should still be at boarding stations on time in the event delays are less than expected.
