Face coverings no longer required in South Bend, St. Joseph Co. buildings

The city of South Bend and St. Joseph County have rescinded the order requiring face coverings in city or county buildings. Face coverings will no longer be required in city or county owned and operated facilities as of Monday.

While face coverings won't be required, it is recommended those who have not been fully vaccinated continue to wear face coverings until at least two weeks after their final dose of the vaccine.

Guidance concerning public meetings will be released at a later date.

"The great news from our public health officials confirms that the vaccine provides strong protection and the quick vaccine rollout has finally turned the tide in our year-long fight against COVID-19," said South Bend Mayor James Mueller. "Fully vaccinated residents can now resume their normal lives safely. The sooner everyone gets vaccinated, the sooner we can put this behind us once and for all. The vaccine is easy, safe, effective, and free. I encourage all residents to sign up at ourshot.in.gov."
