A senior at Fairfield High School is taking the shortage of personal protection equipment into his own hands during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carl Young is using his 3-D printer to make face shields for first responders in Elkhart.
He says he received a donation from Tools 4 Schools for the supplies he needed.
It takes approximately one hour and 40 minutes to print one mask. So far he has made 135.
Six have already gone to Goshen Urgent Care and the rest will go to Elkhart Police for them to hand out to first responders.
“I’ve always tried to help people and I think that this is a great way that I can do it and it’s not really it’s taking up some of my time but I think we’re all realizing that we have a lot of time lately so I mean it doesn’t take that much time to put one together and I love that I’m helping people and making their life, their work life more safe," Young said.
Young says he will continue to team up and print these face shields as long as they have the supplies and as long as there is a need for them.
