Fallen tree destroys two cars, blocks residential street

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - O’Brien Street was partially blocked Wednesday morning after a tree crushed two cars.
Witnesses say the tree collapsed overnight during the rain.
Karen Lolmaugh’s car was crushed by the tree across the street.
“I heard a big boom last night, about two o’clock in the morning,” Lolmaugh said.
A car adjacent to Lolmaugh’s closer to the tree was also crushed.
Wednesday, city crews cleaned the debris.
“I’m hurt. I’m sad. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how me and my kids will get around,” Lolmaugh said.
It’s still unclear if the tree was uprooted from rain, was rotten, or was struck by lightning.
