Falling retail sales could be due to gas prices

Falling retail sales in March could be due in part to lower gas prices.

According to a Census Bureau report, sales were down about half a percent last month.

Economists were expecting them to be unchanged from February.

Spending at the pumps dropped more than 2 percent.

Hiring also slowed last month when 500,000 people dropped out of the labor force.
