Families beat the heat with cardboard boat race

GRASS LAKE, Mich. -- The hot weather meant that a lot of people spent the holiday week out on the water.

And for some, there was a little bit of creativity involved.

Friends and family up in Grass Lake raced boats made out of cardboard.

The rules were simple: no Styrofoam and no motors. Everything else was a bit of creativity and paddle.

Water and cardboard don't exactly mix but in the hot weather that didn't seem to matter.

Racers said that even if they didn't finish first, they still won by beating the heat.
