Family displaced by early morning fire

NILES, Mich. -- A family lost their home and belongings after an early morning house fire on Monday.

It happened just before 3 a.m. on the 2300 block of Main Street in Niles.

Niles Township, Niles City and Howard Township fire departments responded to the call.

The home belongs to a family with 2 small children and a woman in the later stages of pregnancy.

They all escaped the burning house unharmed, but the pregnant woman was checked out by the EMT's on scene after having trouble breathing because of smoke inhalation.

Investigators plan to return to the home to determine the cause of the fire either Monday afternoon or Tuesday.
