Fans pep up Irish before Navy game

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – On Friday Fighting Irish fans packed Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center for the pep rally against Navy.

The crowd heard from Head Coach Brian Kelly and game day captains Harrison Smith and Chris Salvi.

Kelly said Salvi is the first walk-on he’s ever made captain. Salvi said “We are ready to fight and we’re going to knock out, we’re going to knock out the Shipmen.”
Smith took a moment to speak about Football Intern Xavier Murphy, nicknamed “X”. Murphy passed away earlier this month after his battle with leukemia.
Smith said there was no one like “X” and he’ll be greatly missed. “I just want to say thank you to “X” and keep watching over us,” said Smith.
Players also join in with the crowd to judge a Halloween costume contest. The Oompa Loompa costume took home the winning title.
The Irish hope to carry the pep rally momentum onto Saturday’s game against Navy. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Notre Dame Stadium.
