SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Fat Tuesday celebrations are underway across the nation.
Michiana bakers were hard at work making a Fat Tuesday favorite known as pączki.
Pączki, found in polish cuisine, are often served before Ash Wednesday.
Described as similar to a doughnut with deep fried dough, pączki are filled with a sweet filling and topped with icing, powdered sugar or glaze.
In Mishawaka, West End Bakery made close to 400 dozen pączki in anticipation of the day.
Local tweets showcased the enthusiasm for these beloved sweet treats.
Anyone know where a guy can get a #paczki around here? pic.twitter.com/HJ1nnHAlAW

Such focus by some of these officers on this precious paczki. Hope you’re getting your fill on this Fat Tuesday! #southbend#MardiGras19#PaczkiDaypic.twitter.com/9qqNJgdZm4
