Fatal car crash in Benton Township leaves one dead, another injured

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -  A fatal car crash left one dead and another injured at 1:48 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Benton Charter Township Police Department.

The victim was a 25-year-old man from Benton Harbor.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2016 Dodge Challenger engulfed in flames south of E. Britain Avenue, off of S. Benton Center Avenue, according to the report. 

Benton Township Police were assisted by Benton Township Fire and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Road Patrol to put out the fire.

The Challenger was allegedly traveling south on S. Benton Center Avenue and lost control south of E. Britain Avenue and struck several trees, officers said. 

First responders attempted to provide first aid to the passenger who was later pronounced deceased at the scene, according to officers. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, officers said.

This crash is under investigation.
