Michigan State Police investigating fatal I-94 crash in Van Buren County

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. – Michigan State Police are currently investigating a fatal crash involving a construction worker and a semi-truck on I-94.

The crash took place Friday around 9:30 pm on westbound I-94, near CR 653.

Initial investigation shows that a road construction worker was operating a crane conducting bridgework over-top of the roadway. The workers tried to jump off of the equipment before being struck by the semi, according to troopers.

The worker was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the work has not been released as the family is being notified.

The driver of the semi-truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the local hospital.

This crash remains under investigation.
