BERRIEN COUTNY, Mich. --- Brian Miller, the father of Cortez Miller, one of the victims allegedly killed by Antwan Mims in March, testified in court on Thursday.
Brian Miller told jurors he was at his house when he heard gun fire on a neighboring street. He said he then drove to the house where the shots came from and discovered his son, Cortez on the ground.
Miller said he then knelt beside his son and tried to comfort him.
"I was holding him and tears were coming out of his eyes," said Miller. "I said 'I got you baby. Daddy’s here,' and I kissed him."
Miller said his son then took his last breath. Miller went on to tell the jury that it was only after he realized Cortez died that he noticed the lifeless body of his stepson, Michael Johnson, just a few feet away.
Miller told the jury that he eventually left the scene to find his son and stepson's accused killer, Antwan Mims.
"I went looking for him," said Miller.
