For a while, it looked like it would be another Michiana winter without serious cold, as average temperatures in December and January finished well above normal.
However, it appears as if the shortest month of the year is going to try to make up for lost time.
Michiana is likely in for a cold and snowy February, according to the Climate Prediction Center.
An arctic blast is likely this weekend, bringing the coldest air in two years back to the Midwest.
It's possible that temperatures in South Bend could dip below zero for the first time in more than two years.
