FEMA conducting nationwide emergency alert testing August 7

FEMA is planning to conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on August 7.

Testing will take place at 2:20 p.m. EDT and is scheduled to last for about one minute.

The test will send alerts to TVs and radios, but not phones.

Alerts are being tested in coordination with the FCC and will assess the system’s ability to distribute a national message during an emergency without the use of internet connectivity.

According to FEMA, this is the fifth EAS nationwide test. The last test was done in October 2018.
