Field Museum to exhibit pieces from Russian meteorite

CHICAGO -- A Chicago museum will exhibit over 100 shards of the meteorite that exploded in Russia.

The 11 ton meteorite exploded into thousands of pieces back in February.

Dashboard cameras recorded the event as it happened.

Thousand of pieces have been found and some of them will travel all the way to Chicago's Field Museum.

"I expected we would get a piece like this. But we got more than a kilogram of pieces there laid out on the table there," said Doctor Philipp Heck, assistant curator of meteorite studies.

He and a partner sent a team to Russia as soon as the meteorite happened and they negotiated a deal to buy the pieces.
