SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Fill the Boot fundraiser has started in the annual campaign by the South Bend Fire Department August 31 and September 1.
The fundraiser supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to help kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger.
258 firefighters will be at Wal-Mart locations at 3701 Portage Road and 700 West Ireland Road asking customers and passersby for donations.
“I’ve been a firefighter for over two decades, and as a kid, I can remember images of Jerry Lewis and his telethon. South Bend Firefighters will help fight another battle this weekend and support the MDA and help raise money to fight these diseases,” Fire Chief Stephen Cox said.
Firefighters will be at this location from noon until 5:00 p.m.
