Fire extinguisher use as easy as PASS

With 1,000 fires in this country per day it may be a good idea to know how to use a fire extinguisher.

It is pretty simple once you learn the acronym P-A-S-S.

Pull the pin, Aim for the fire, Squeeze the lever, Sweep - sweep the spray at the base of the fire and from side to side.Kitchen fires are among the most common fires in the home.

Captain Brian Linson of the Mishawaka Fire Department suggests keeping a small fire extinguisher in the kitchen nearby.

If a fire starts spreading too quickly, do not try and put it out.  Get out of the home and call 911.
