Fire sparks on South Bend's S. Wellington Street Sunday night

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Crews with the South Bend Fire Department responded to structure fire around 11:22 p.m. Sunday night in the 600 block of S. Wellington Street. 

According to fire officials, firefighters found a working fire with smoke showing from the front of the structure, and fire attack was made quickly with the fire extinguished, and no extension noted.

Overhaul and ventilation of the structure was also completed.

Firefighters said the homeowner was home during the fire and was able to safely exit the home.

"South Bend Fire EMS on scene evaluated the homeowner with no reports of injuries or transportation needed," fire officials said. "No reports of injuries to firefighters while fighting the fire."

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
