Firefighter injured while battling house fire on Elmer Street

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A South Bend firefighter was taken to the hospital for a knee injury after battling a house fire on Elmer Street Tuesday morning.

At 7:17 a.m., firefighters were called to a home in the 2000 block of N. Elmer St.

At the scene, crews found heavy fire coming through a hole in the roof. At the time, the home was under renovation, so no occupants were inside, reports said.

A South Bend firefighter was taken to the hospital for a knee injury following the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
