Firefighters clarify details of fatal fire

The South Bend Fire Department has released new details in the fatal fire on O'Brien Street early Thursday morning because false information had been published about the incident.

Captain Matt Beebe's updated report includes details on how the occupants exited the home.

According to the report, 38-year-old Major Riley exited the home through the front door with one of the boys.

Lanitra Davis, 28, dropped the other boy out of a second floor window before jumping out of the window according to Beebe.

Firefighters rescued 10-year-old Lanijah Kyle from the home, but died a short time later.

According to Captain Beebe, the fire started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation.

On Thursday, a man who claimed to have rescued two of the children from the fire spoke publicly.
