Firefighters rescue cats from house fire Friday, cause of fire under investigation

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Three cats are safe after being rescued from a house fire in Michigan City Friday morning.

The Michigan City Fire Department reports crews responded to a house fire which started in the kitchen, causing heavy smoke and damage throughout the home.

The homeowner wasn't home at the time, but three cats were.

One of the cats was revived by first responders after being overcome by smoke.

The cats were all taken to a local animal hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The MCFD Fire Marshal and an investigator with the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

The cause remains under investigation and has yet to be determined.

No other injuries have been reported.
