As clouds clear Thursday night, temperatures will approach the freezing mark for the first time this fall across Michiana.
On average, our first freeze arrives on October 16. Michiana had to wait until November 1 last year to get lows to dip below 32 degrees.
Freeze Warnings are in effect for Friday morning for the entire area except for Berrien County. Due to their proximity to Lake Michigan, temperatures will stay a bit warmer overnight compared to the rest of the area.
South Bend typically averages 3 nights of freezing/sub-freezing temperatures each October. Last year bucked the trend and was the first time we went without a freeze in the month of October since 2007.
After tonight, even though the weather pattern looks more fall-like, low temperatures should stay above freezing for the next two weeks.
