Five people arrested, 3 guns seized following reports of shots fired

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police arrested five people in a vehicle following reports of shots fired early Sunday morning.

An officer heard gunshots in the area of 6th and Indiana just before 1 a.m. and located a white Chevy Malibu in the area had what appeared to be gun smoke around it, reports said.

When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, it fled, reports said.

The Malibu was stopped in the 62000 block of SR 19 after stop sticks were deployed, reports said.

All five people in the vehicle were taken into custody.

Inside the vehicle, officers say they found a rifle on the center console, multiple rifle and handgun casings, a handgun in the front passenger floorboard, a handgun under the rear seat and 2.5 grams of marijuana, report said.

Shell casings were located in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue. Also in that area, officers found a Jeep Grand Cherokee with damage and a window at a home that appeared to be damaged by a bullet, reports said.

• Davone Pittman, 26 years old of Elkhart, was arrested on preliminary charges of felony fleeing law enforcement, carrying a handgun without a license, and driving while suspended.
• Cardre Crockett, 25 years old of Elkhart, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and carrying a handgun without a license.
• Antawan Miles, 20 years old of Elkhart, was arrested on preliminary charges of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a controlled substance, and a warrant.
• A 15 year old juvenile male was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a firearm by minor, leaving home without permission of guardian, and a warrant.
• Kevon Coleman, 19 years old of Elkhart, was arrested on preliminary charges of carrying a handgun without a license, possession of marijuana, and a warrant.
