Flu season is almost upon us

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --It’s only September, but doctors at Memorial Hospital think they have already seen this season’s first case of the flu.

The hospital is waiting for the second round of test results to come back, but the patient’s preliminary tests were positive.

Mathew Teters, a local doctor said, “Usually we start seeing cases of the flu around October and it runs all the way through winter. The highest month is usually February for flu cases, although it's not completely uncommon to see them earlier as well."

Teters also commented that it’s not too early for patients to start showing the symptoms like fever, chills, body aches, and fatigue.

If you begin showing any of the symptoms go to the doctor right away. The best way to protect yourself is to get a flu shot.
