DOWAGIAC, Mich. – Mark Staten, who is originally from Dowagiac, has been hired on as the tight ends and offensive line coach at the University of Toledo.
Staten attended Dowagiac High School and served as an assistant coach for Michigan State University for 13 years under head coach Mark Dantonio, who recently retired.
Staten spoke with ABC57 Saturday Kickoff Host Allison Hayes about the new coaching position and the challenges that lay ahead.
“It’s got an up and coming young coach who’s got a ceiling that he’s not even close to being at,” Staten said. “And that’s exciting. And plus it’s not very far from my home community so my parents who are still in Dowagiac can get down and be a part of our lives and a part of their grandkids lives and enjoy watching football.”
Toledo will play Michigan State University this upcoming season.
