Football fans stay inside iconic Goodyear Blimp for first time ever
SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- An iconic blimp for an iconic game.
When you look up in the sky during the Notre Dame versus Michigan football match-up this weekend, you’ll see something familiar high above you, the legendary Goodyear Blimp.
“It’s a big excitement when the blimp comes to a game and the Notre Dame and Michigan game is a blimp worthy game," said Chief Pilot Goodyear Blimp, Jerry Hissem.
Three lucky football fans got a chance to experience it in a whole new way.
In celebration of the 44th match up between the rivals, Goodyear teamed up with Airbnb to offer three one-night stays.
“On the 15th, on October 15th. As it went up, the first person that could get those days selected them. To enjoy, hangout in the blimp. Tailgating a little bit. Our hanger is based on a lake so we had a hanger set up out there with a fire pit. If you think about it there's only six people that have done this in the world and stayed all night in the Goodyear Blimp so that’s pretty special.," said Hissem.
The special moments didn’t end with just the stay, one man seized the rare occasion to pop the question.
We hear there was an engagment as well!
“They were happy and we congratulated them and they did have a good stay.”
Now that their stay is over, the blimp has one more memory to make tonight when it makes its rounds above Michigan Stadium.
“It created a lot of excitement. People are excited to see it in the sky and it makes for a great football game," said Hissem.
As of now there is no word of this partnership with Airbnb happening again.
Jerry and another pilot will be making their way to Ann Arbor, Michigan, Saturday afternoon all the way from Ohio.
Once they’re flying overhead, make sure to wave hello.
