Former Elkhart officer accused of excessive force sentenced to 1 year in prison

ELKHART, Ind. - A former officer with the Elkhart Police Department who was accused of using excessive force against a handcuffed suspect back in 2018 was sentenced to one year in prison, according to the U.S. District Court.

Joshua Titus will serve one year and one day in prison followed by one year of supervised release. In March, he pleaded guilty to deprivation of civil rights as part of a plea agreement, according to court documents. 

He must show up to prison by April 22, 2024.

Cory Newland, the second former officer accused alongside Titus, was sentenced to 15 months in prison in December 2022.
