Former Irish fencer to serve as U.S. flag bearer in Opening Ceremony

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- One of Notre Dame's own has landed a prestigious honor in the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Former Irish fencer Mariel Zagunis will serve as the U.S. flag bearer in Friday’s ceremony. The two-time Olympic gold medalist was voted to serve as the flag bearer by her teammates.

She will be the third fencer in history to carry the U.S. flag in the opening ceremony.
