Free hazardous waste drop-off for Elkhart County residents

ELKHART, Ind. -- Residents of Elkhart can safely dispose of household hazardous waste items on Mar.2.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, hazardous waste can be taken to the Elkhart County Correctional Facility on C.R. 7, just north of C.R. 26.

This free program, sponsored by the Elkhart County Solid Waste Management District, is offered on the first Saturday of every month. 

Accepted items:

  • Flammable liquids
  • Medications
  • Household cleaners
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Glue
  • Oil paints
  • Antifreeze
  • Kerosene
  • Weed killer
  • Rat poison

Items which will not be accepted:

  • Electronic Waste
