Fruit farmers likely to wait until summer's end for disaster declaration

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- A disaster declaration for southwest Michigan fruit farmers likely won't be made until late summer.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said it won't declare anything until harvest.

Two weeks ago, grape farmers took a huge hit when frost destroyed nearly the entire crop of juice grapes!

Farmers could end up qualifying for low-interest loans, since they lost more than 30 percent of their crops!
