Fulton County man arrested following brief standoff

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- A Fulton County man was taken into custody following a two hour long standoff at his home, according to Indiana State Police.

Multiple police agencies were called to a home on West 525 North around 12:30 p.m. Thursday for reports of a man threatening to harm his neighbors.

The sheriff's department, the Kewanna Police Department the Rochester Police Department and Indiana State Police all responded to the scene.

At the home, 32-year-old Jacob Howard barricaded himself in his home with his 14-year-old daughter. He had allegedly made unprovoked threats to harm his neighbors.

ISP hostage negotiators tried to get Howard to release his daughter and leave the home, but he didn't comply.

At 2:35 p.m.  ISP SWAT members entered the home and took Howard into custody. He was wearing a homemade bullet resistant vest when he was arrested, police said.

The teen was placed in the custody of a relative.

During a search of Howard's residence, police said they found a shotgun and ammunition.
