Fundraiser held for family of 10-month-old hit by tree

One week ago, 10-month-old Yaretzi Jimenez-Martinez was struck by a tree at Studebaker Park. She died two days later.

"The white ribbon means we lost an angel so just trying to keep in mind that it was a little angel,” said Pedro Velasquez, Yaretzi’s godfather.

On Sunday, family and friends were back at the park, raising money for Yaretzi’s family.

“Selling some water, some chips, just collecting money for the family to help pay for hospital bills, funeral costs, help with any expenses they got at this moment. One of my teammates from my soccer team is donating a TV, he’s making a raffle out of it, selling tickets and all the money is going to the family,” said Velasquez.

The fundraiser isn’t the only means of support for the Martinez family.

Over $3,500 has been raised on a gofund me page and the United Way has started a fund of their own.

“The community’s been responding pretty good and we really appreciate it. God bless everyone that’s been helping us with this,” said Velasquez.

The funeral is Monday at 10 am at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.
