Fundraising events for 22 month old South Bend toddler with Leukemia

The Rodriguez Family in South Bend found out that their 22 month old son has Leukemia about two weeks ago and since then, the community has been raising money and support for the family with a Facebook page called “Gabe's Groupies” which has already gotten over 2,000 likes.

On June 8th,  Gabe Rodriguez, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia.

His parents wasted no time getting him to Riley Hospital for aggressive treatments of chemotherapy, platelet transfers and steroids.

One of their many trips for chemotherapy and a blood transfusion happened Thursday.

And as this little boy fights for his life, with 9 months of treatments followed by 3 years of “maintenance” expected by his physicians, the community is rallying around him and the family to try to make four years of medical bills less of a burden on the family.

They are doing this through Gabe's Groupies t-shirts and fundraising events.

The SJC Chamber Leadership Class 40 is hosting a Karaoke War at the Emporium Building Friday night. The event runs from 5 - 7 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.

On Sunday, the group will also be selling "Go Gabe Go" Rafting and Rock climbing tickets in the Emporium parking lot next to the SB Parks and Recreation Concession Booth.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Studio C Salon will be hosting a "Cut-a-thon" for Gabe. Haircuts will be provided for a $10 donation. Vendors will be selling baked goods and other items as well.
