Gaming expansion could lead to downtown casino

CHICAGO -- Downtown Chicago could be getting a new casino, but some do not believe that that is the answer to the state’s economic issues.

Lawmakers are pushing for casino expansion in Illinois.

They hope doing that will allow for a new state owned casino to go up in Chicago splitting the profits with the city.

Critics like former gambling addict Melinda Litchfield say no, it is a setup for more debt.

"The people that are going to be providing the income for these casinos are the ones that the state is going to be bailing out in every way there is," said Litchfield.

The decision on how the state will pick up the slack for its financial woes should come by the end of May.
