Get Wet for a Vet Inc. raises $25,000 to benefit Mishawka veterans

The 4th annual Get Wet for a Vet fundraiser was held on August 6th at VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka and the group announced today, the event raised it's goal of $25,000.

A majority of the proceeds will help purchase a van for disabled veterans.

The DAV provides free transportation to VA medical facilities for injured and ill veterans.

It will the be the first vehicle in South Bend and will transport vets to Fort Wayne and Marion when needed.

"If they don't have any transportation, they call the hospital and coordinator there. It relieves a lot of pressure off a lot of them. A lot of these veterans can't make these appointment on their own." said Jerry Fivecoate, State Commander of Indiana DAV.

Since starting the fundraiser, the group has raised and donated more than $66,000 to charities that help local veterans.
