Girl hurt in Noblesville West Middle School shooting was hit 7 times

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The family of a girl critically wounded during a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School says she was shot seven times, including in her face, neck and upper chest.

The family of 13-year-old Ella Whistler released a statement Monday saying she also suffered collapsed lungs and several broken bones, including in her jaw and back, during the May 25 attack at Noblesville West Middle School.

Her family says Ella suffered significant nerve damage and a severed vein in her spinal column. They say she's in stable condition and "continues to make progress," but faces a long recovery.

Ella underwent surgery at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis after the shooting. Her science teacher was also shot but not seriously wounded as he tackled the shooter.

Another student has been arrested in the attack.
