Goodwill donations slow down due to weather impacts
GRANGER, Ind. -- Winter is in full swing and for some it can be hard to get their hands on winter gear to keep them safe and warm this time of year. Weather has had a large impact on donations at places like Goodwill in Granger.
According to USA Today, 8,000 people go without winter coats in just Indiana alone. Normally January and February are slower months, but this year, with the amounts of snow and cold temperatures we have seen, that slowdown came much earlier. Debie Coble, CEO Of Goodwill Industries of Michiana tells ABC57's Sidney Moore that winter clothes are flying off the shelves and without an uptick in donations some of those racks will have very slim selections.
Coble states, "In particular, we are looking for more of those winter items, the coats, the gloves, the sweaters, the pants, those kinds of things, boots, shoes, those will make sure then that the folks and that come in shopping at Goodwill looking for that good bargain will have the resources that they need to be able to clothe their families."
The need for winter gear is not just for kids or adults but rather for all sizes and any items that can help keep someone warm this winter.
