World Cup final brings the Elkhart community together to watch the Game on the Green

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Parks and Recreation and The Lerner Theatre hosted "Game on the Green," a free community watch party for the World Cup final on the Central Green in downtown Elkhart.

The event began at 1 p.m. ahead of the 3 p.m. kickoff and drew a visibly international crowd, including fans of both finalists as well as members of Elkhart's Mexican community.

"Feels amazing, I mean, we kind of get to see like you know other community get together for an event, and you kind of feel like all that support. It definitely means a lot to us," said Bryan Medina, a family worker from Medina's Mexican Pizza.

"I like it because I need more of these events for the people, for the community," said Jesus Reyes, owner of Deportes Reyes.

This match brought together Elkhart's international and American communities around a shared moment, with attendees representing a range of countries and backgrounds gathering to watch the world's biggest soccer match on a big screen in the heart of downtown.
