GOSHEN, Ind. -- Goshen College unveiled its new $21 million nursing and public health center on Wednesday, the first day of class back from winter break.
Students will now be able to work with state-of-the-art equipment such as hospital-accurate exam rooms, skill labs and more.
The available beds and mannequins for the program jumped from three to 10, and their facility space more than tripled.
Already one of the largest majors on campus, the nursing department hopes to more than double their enrollment in the coming years.
GC currently acts as a pipeline for nurses to Goshen Health, located across the street from campus.
Goshen program leaders hope that their expansion will lead to even more nurses and public health workers joining the workforce to combat a nationwide nursing shortage.
The state of Indiana is short around 4,300 nurses as of 2023-2024 and will need another 5,000 by the year 2031.
