Gov. Mitch Daniels signs smoking ban into law

INDIANAPOLIS -- On Monday, Gov. Mitch Daniels formally signed off on a statewide smoking ban in Indiana.

It bans smoking in all indoor public places except for bars, taverns, casinos, and tobacco shops.

Legislators have tried to pass a statewide smoking ban for the past six years.

So while some are unhappy with the exemptions, others said that this is better than nothing.

The smoking ban will take effect on July 1.
